Classic PC Games

Take a step back in time and revisit your favorite DOS and Windows games. The files available in this collection consist primarily of PC demos, freeware, and shareware. These files are the original releases which will require intermediate to advanced knowledge to install and run on modern operating systems. If you would rather simply try some classic MS-DOS games inside your browser you may wish to try the online MS-DOS Software Library. New games are added to this collection on a weekly basis.

Specific news regarding major updates can be found on our website Demu.

If you are the copyright holder of a classic computer game and would like the full version of your work to appear in the archive please e-mail me at swizzle@demu.org. I'm also more than happy to answer questions and fill requests.

Compatibility Information
The majority of these games will not run correctly on modern operating systems. For DOS titles you will need to use DOSBox. You can find an easy to follow DOSBox tutorial here.

Most Windows titles will need to be run through Windows Virtual PC under the appropriate version of Windows for full functionality. Some titles may *mostly* work by simply configuring them to use a compatibility mode.

If you are running Linux, BSD, Solaris or Mac OS X, Wine will run most of the older Windows based software (and DOSBox).

One sunny day, a lighthearted Fool strolled along a hilly path, whistling a merry tune. A long wooden pole was slung over his shoulder and attached to it was a cloth bundle which carried his life's possessions. "What a marvelous afternoon!" he exclaimed to no one in particular, pausing to appreciate the lovely countryside. Soon the trees parted and the path led to a small clearing, ending abruptly at the edge of a treacherous cliff. But the Fool was undaunted and kept at his swift...

Don't Look Back is a minimalistic retro mix of platformer and shooter while also being a version of Orpheus and Eurydice legend. Standing at your lover's grave you descend with a handgun to the underworld hoping you can bring the deceased soul back to life. Atmospheric and difficult. This one is a must-play(-through)!

"Karoshi Factory" is the third installment in the popular "Karoshi" series by Jesse Venbrux. This time you have to cooperate with other characters and kill them all at the end of each of the 25 levels. The game is much more conventional, similar to classic puzzlers like "Lost Vikings" and absurd levels are almost absent this time, so gameplay is rather calm in comparison to its predecessors. Also some of the levels are no real logic/puzzle levels, but require...

Well this game comes with very little info. Simply try to win races and buy better cars as you go along. Races, and tournaments open up as you win more and more. Steering is with directional keys, and that's it. Don't expect there to be anything beyond that. Oh, of course always expect to be addicted...!

If you think "oh no, not another tetris clone" then i'll have to say its not just that. This one is in fact quite good. It is inspired by and is a tribute to the C64 era, and it's music. The music in this game is something i personally like very much, but also the sound effects, plays a big role. The synthetic, and crispy music fits very well with the rest of the game. It also allows for 2P as seen in screenies. (Drasir-Vel)

This is the classic board game of Reversi or Othello. You play as either black or white, and the goal is to have the most pieces in your color when the game is over. You turn the opponents pieces by placing yours on either side of his. That turns his over to be your color. Placed correctly you can turn whole lines (minus two pieces) from his to yours. Have fun.

"Assassin Blue" is an interesting action platformer with a unique visual style. There isn't anything you haven't seen in other freeware platformers before, but it has great boss fights, a nice story, good music and several hidden extras and unlockables. The game consists of twelve levels which should be playable for beginners as well as for experienced gamers and it should keep you occupied for one or two hours.

Harald Hardtooth is a classic. Every oldgamer should know this title where the defender of teeth slays evil bacteria. Harald Hardtooth was released as a commercial game with Colgate (now Palmolive Colgate) as the producer and Danish based SilverRock Productions as the developer. Silverrock later made more popular games like Hugo and Guldkornsekspressen also known as the OTA game or cereal game. The game has more gameplay than you would think. But it is still worth a try, and you can never know...

Bombic is a Czech produced game where you control a blue figure around in a maze, placing bombs to dispose of your enemies. However this game has a story to follow, and the scenario changes for every level, and as such presents you with different obstacles, enemies and strategies. This game is another Dynablaster clone= True. This is JUST another Dynablaster clone= FALSE! This game is definently what quality freeware is all about. The game was translated to Czech, English, German and Polish.

Useful for following situations: - A program with CPU timing loops needs to be slowed down. - Software being debugged needs to be slowed down, to see details of graphic output sequence. - Software needs to be tested under adverse load, or performance evaluated for slower CPU.

Isometric arkanoid with three difficulty levels, bonuses rarely seen in this type of games (shooting ball, pinball-style speed accelerators) and strategy elements. This is freeware version of URSE Games' game "Nuclear Ball". The latter one can still be purchased from developer's site and both seem to be identical products (but with altered names) with all features available.

This is a remake of the old Atic Atac with a little extra in the package. The game is fast and hard, but good quality like everything else in here. Standard horizontal shooter with stages, bosses, normal and special weapons and flying bonuses. One thing which makes Goldrake Spacer very different from other shooters is operetta-like music. Nothing can be told about story, because game is made entirely in Italian and there are no Italians currently in CWF roster. If youre one of them you can enjoy the game fully, but as in case of all similar games you can enjoy it anyway without being polyglot - it's playable.

Well this side-scrolling action-packed game is surely a great way to spend half an hour. It really just races away, while you try to keep in control of what happens... Sadly the games developer felt it necessary to take his own life in the beginning of 2006. The mood of the game might give you the idea that he was not happy about life and what it had to offer him.

Tasty Static is a videogame where you go really fast and jump a lot. You'll probably get really annoyed along the way too. It's a clone of an excellent PC oldie called Skyroads by BlueMoon Interactive, which is required playing if you like this kind of stuff. There are quite a lot of levels in Tastystatic, and so you should be entertained (or annoyed) for quite a while. More user-submitted levels can be found on the website.

Action/strategy game with ecological theme. Your goal in each level is to guide pollution clouds from factories to air cleansing facility by changing direction of the wind with your "hurricane" pointer. Clouds shouldn't touch the pointer or high pressure winds areas, otherwise your global warming meter increases and if it reaches 100% you lose. There are sixteen levels and arcade mode, available when all campaign levels are beaten with perfect score.

Well you might have looked at the genre of this game, and tried to figure out what genre it is. Trust me, I did the same thing when I was adding the game... This is something a bit new. The developer describes it this way: mono - part Asteroids mono - part Robotron mono - part Paint Shop Pro And I think that is as close as we are going to get... Brilliant game, really addictive and invigorating.

Tetris spiced with a little bit of Arkanoid in which your standard task of building lines of blocks is constantly ruined by a destructive "ball" (in fact a square block) running all over the playing field. There are three game modes and nine difficulty levels affecting speed of falling blocks. You can also choose to play with up to six balls or without them, making Tetripong a standard Tetris game.

"Everybody loved Blockman's adventure in a Pacman maze, so it seemed inevitable that there'd be a sequel." - Jayenkai. Harsh...but such is life. Blockman gets More is of course somewhat of a pacman-clone but with Jayenkais usual twist this holds its own. Go enjoy.

This game is a remake of sorts of games like "Boulder Dash", where your job is to collect crystals/diamonds without getting yourself killed in the process. This also means that you have to look out and plan your progress, unless you want to close in diamonds so they cannot be accessed. The game has a lot more details than the old classics, and as such prolongs the gameplay. But it is a rather simple game. We have tried to get in touch with the developer of this game, but without luck.

This is a remake of a GREAT classic. Jumping Jackson is a little yellow dude, with a love for 80's style rock-computer music. He has to jump around a board, avoiding the instruments, jumping on coloured tiles to get a record (no not a criminal record... remember vinyl?). When he has found these coloured records he has to seek out a coloured record-player. You might want to search for a record player in the same colour, though. As you apply records, the music builds up, and becomes this grooving...

There are many fans of the classic hunting game "Duck Hunt". And there are even more fans of the classic FPS "Doom". So what would be necessary to bring these two fan groups together??? Correct! Lots of ducks to kill and lots of big weapons to do so... :) Noproblo Games realized that, mixed the two classic games and the result is "Duck Doom Deluxe"! In the beginning of the game you start with a simple pistol. But the more ducks you shoot down and the more levels...

"Mail-Room Madness" is a puzzle game in which you take the role of a postman and it's your job to gather all letters that were scattered in the postal building by a disgruntled employee. To do so you have to use elevators, throw bombs, push reels, carry around lots of boxes and do all the other stuff you know from similar logic/puzzle games. The game might not be the prettiest one when it comes to graphics and sound effects, but its strong side is definitely level design and that's...

Traveling to Greece, they find themselves in the remote fishing village of Agia Anna. However, they soon learn that even while on vacation their work is never done. It seems that ancient creatures of legend known as the Sea People have been emerging from the ocean at night and dragging villagers down to the depths to eat them. Ben, Simon, and...

First the important question, what does "Karoshi" mean? Well, it is Japanese and means "Death from overwork". And following this definition it is your task to help your character to die over and over again. "Karoshi" is a logic puzzler, but you shouldn't expect the normal puzzles you know from many other puzzle games. In fact it has some weird and unique ideas and after the first few levels you will only succeed if you start to think outside the box....

"Link-Em Bamboo!" is a cute and colouful little puzzle game in which it is your task to stick bamboo pipes together so that there are no dead ends. Sounds easy you say? Then please download the game, try it and tell that again. In fact it's hard as hell! You are under a very tight time limit and you have to reach a certain score before time runs out to reach the next level (and to appease the vicious panda boy). Bigger chains give higher scores, but there is a big danger of getting...

Lean back and listen to our good old friend Kitty (you might know him from "A Game with a Kitty" and "AGwaK 2: Darkside Adventures") who tells you the story of Stargirl, her stolen Starscooter and her quest to get it back... "Stargirl and the Thief from the Exploded Moon" is a very nice platform game in the tradition of "Super Mario 2". It has cute graphics, an atmospheric soundtrack and there are plenty of secrets, hidden items and occasional boss...

A nice remake of the old cult game "Miner 2049er" that was developed by Bill Hogue in 1982 and published for the Atari 2600, Apple II and C64. Help Bob to clean his mine from the toxic waste and avoid all the evil creatures and mutants. But be careful: Once you jump down, you might not be able to reach the upper platforms again. Very nice graphics and a retro soundtrack make this game well worth playing. Version 1.3 comes with 25 levels and a local highscore table.

To call the game concept of "Green Snake" innovative or unique would be a huge lie. In fact it's a classic Snake game. Collect all the coins in the maze before the time runs out and be careful not to bite yourself in the tail while your snake grows longer and longer. There are about 40 levels in 8 different zones and if you completed them all, there's also an instruction how to create your own levels and zones. "Green Snake" comes with three difficulty settings, which means...

It might not be the right time to present this game (as it is in fact a christmas game), but it is way too good to wait till december. "Garden Gnomes don't like holidays. You, a gnome of the big city, have had enough of those pesky elves climbing down your skyscraper to drop gifts down the chimney. You put remote-controlled wheels on the skyscraper and tie yourself to the chimney with a bungee cord. This holiday, the elves will fly." And it really is fun to watch them fly. You have to...

Lao's Quest is a puzzle platformer inspired by Rick Dangerous games. You play as Lao, Rick's brother, who embarks on a quest to rescue Rick from the traps of Guatemala temples. As opposed to Rick series Lao's Quest is heavily puzzle-oriented. Action elements known from its predecessors (spikes, bombs, enemies) are present, but solution to each level must be first carefully thought out; levels are very hard and require trial and error method to solve, so setting number of lives to...
